Welcome to the Rundown
Hi everyone. Welcome to the Rundown’s blog page. Here we’ll share why we are creating this media platform and our thoughts on the media industry trends as they are unfolding.
We will also invite experts in the data, AI, web3, product space that are immersed in trying to understand how new technologies are reshaping the media world. We will also share some behind The Rundown snapshots on our progress and our thinking. I’m pretty excited about it.
I’m asked frequently to advise on how an individual, a start up, a corporation or a country can tell their stories. How to position themselves in the media landscape, with the right message, the right audience and the desired impact. I am also approached by young talented journalists in countries I travel to all around the world, wanting to talk about the noisy and challenging world they are operating in, much different to when I was at CNN. Stories are powerful and core values do not change. What has changed is the media landscape we are in.
- First the pandemic of 2020 has been an accelerant to digital innovation. Change is happening at lightning speed. Every day brings a new and exciting digital tool to play with. This has precipitated a major shift in the world of communications.
- There are modern channels to contend with that bring specific and unique audiences. Each social channel has its own nuance.
- We have to understand the new big data landscape: the volume, the variety, the velocity and veracity of data. We have to grapple with an ocean of unstructured data understand how we can distill it, and create content … in context.
- Individual creators have more tools at their fingertips to create content, that’s good quality, on mobile and not as expensive as it once used to be. Content is Queen.
- Machine learning and AI is transforming how we work and impacting newsrooms, PR companies, comms teams and all storytellers. Where is the efficiency, where is the value? What are the dangers? There are some serious ones. This is new terrain we are all getting our minds wrapped around.
I want The Rundown to look at the big picture trends, the tiny pixels and the practical applications.
