Is It Real or Fake?

What kind of technologies are being considered and tested in order to figure out what is real or not: pictures, voices, video. It's a jungle. Here's one idea being developed by Content Credentials.

A new open source technology called content credentials is making it simple for us to figure out what's real and what's been faked. There's just so much out there to unravel, particularly as news organizations cover some really challenging times, where emotions are high, political agendas are at play, and, most importantly, human lives are being lost. Did AI generate this? Is this shot real? Is it part of this story or an old story that's being recycled now?

This organization is putting a pin in it. Literally, there's a 'CR' icon shaped as a pin, and you click on it, and it tells you about that piece of content. Creators can use this to show that their content was original, whether they used AI or not, where it was shot etc. The meta details. This is added to the record and once it's out on the internet, anyone can check it by clicking the pin.

Their site says their goal is : open standards, figure out if an image or shot or voice has been tampered with, and gives accountability. Check out contentcredentials.org

It's part of a wider initiative where Intel, BBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Microsoft, Canon, Nikon , to mention a few notables, are involved with.

Thomas, my Rundown co-founder, says this could be a better solution because it does not have the problems of blockchain (see my recent post) being slow and unscalable.
