I had the pleasure of attending the Africa Business Media Innovators hosted by Bloomberg Philanthropies in Cape Town this week. Here were some takeaways from the panel I spoke on.
For any kind of digital transformation to be successful, you need to upskill your workforce first. Some are keen, some will resist, and others will go along once the momentum is there.
Newsooms should invest in technology to combat misinformation.
Leaders should think about newsrooms being set up more like intelligence agencies, where data hygiene is critical in decision-making and goes through a rigorous process.
The fact checking industry is an opportunity for investment.
Be open to experimentation and teaching yourself LLMs, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion for images, Runway for generative video, Eleven Labs for text to audio to name a few.
